25 Years for Poker Robbery

Article written by James Bushinsky
Wednesday, November 05, 2008

Last year a woman stole $27,000 from a poker game held in Putnam County. On Oct 24th, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the crime.

Last month, Jacqueline Dennis pleaded guilty to armed robbery. Judge O.C. Spaulding sentenced the 28 year old to 25 years for her participation in the robbery of several men at gunpoint. She has also agreed to testify against her alleged partner. In her agreement with the court, she was to be sentenced to no less than 10 years.

Her attorney, Joseph K. Reeder, stated that the sentence was a lot harsher than Dennis had expected. He stated “My guess is it was because a gun was involved.” Reeder is planning on filing a motion for reconsideration or to appeal the sentencing.

With this sentence she will eligible for parole in about 8 years. Since her arrest in 2007, she had been incarcerated as she could not pay her $40,000 bond. Time served will apply towards her sentence.

The prosecution remained silent during the sentencing as part of the agreement. However, the prosecution reserved the right to comment at her parole hearings.
