Caribbean Stud Poker

Caribbean stud poker starts with each player placing an ante bet. Players and the dealer each receive five cards. The difference being players cards are dealt all face down, while dealer cards are dealt with four face down and one face up. The rules state that each player can look only at their own cards, and nobody else's.

The player can choose to either fold or raise based only on the information gathered from the dealer's one up card. Since this is stud poker the five cards you get are the five cards you get, no exceptions. If you raise you must put twice your ante into a 'raise box'. Obviously if you fold you lose your cards and your ante bet.

After all of the betting is done the dealer reveals their cards. To continue at this point the dealer's hand must meet the minimum requirement of having at least an ace and a king or better poker hand (a pair or better). If the dealer fails to have this minimum, they fold and every player is paid even money for their ante bet, and all raise bets are considered a push. If the dealer does qualify to play then their hand is compared to each player's hand. If the dealers hand wins the house collects the ante bet and any other bets. If the player's hand wins they are paid even money on their ante bet and supplemental bets are paid according to the Caribbean stud poker rules table below:

Basic Playing Strategy

  1. Fold if you have less than Ace-King.

  2. Make a call bet if:

• You have at least any pair or higher.

• You have at least an Ace-King and one of your other cards is the same as the dealer's face card

The casino's edge is about 5.2% based on the player's ante wager (or 2.6% based on the ante and call bet).

• Do not make the progressive jackpot bet unless the amount of the jackpot is relatively high.
