Three Card Poker (aka Tri Poker)

You might find many names for this game because the original game “3 Card Poker” was name protected but the game became a quick hit and other casinos wanted in on it without paying for the name. The rules are the same for all.

This is really two games in one. You can play one or both games but some casinos may require that you play both. The two games are “Three Card Ante/Play” and “Pair Plus”. You can wager different amounts on both games. The game is played with a standard 52 card deck and each player and the dealer get dealt a group of three cards.

Three Card Ante/Play
Straight 1:1
Three of a Kind 4:1
Straight Flush 5:1
You complete against the dealer in this game. You place a bet in the ante and after looking at your hand; you can either fold or place a bet equal to the ante in the play spot. The dealer will then turn over their cards and if they do not have a Queen high hand or higher, they do not qualify to play. When this happens they pay equal money to the ante and if you have a high hand of a straight or better, they will pay the additional bonus. The play bet is a push. If they do qualify, then if their hand is higher than yours, you lose but if yours is higher they pay both the ante and play. If you win or lose and have a straight or higher, you will still be paid the bonus.

Pair Plus
Pair 1:1
Flush 4:1
Straight 6:1
Three of a Kind 30:1
Straight Flush 40:1

This strictly pays out on your hand, if you have a pair or higher, you get paid. Straights pay more than flushes because they are harder to get. As you can see a pair pays 1:1 all the way up to straight flush which pays 40:1. As in most poker games, the ace can play high or low for straights. You should get a hand 25% of the time, which makes it an attractive game; however, there can be wild swings.

Overall the house has a 3.4% advantage over a player who plays correctly. The best strategy is to always play a hand that is Q-6-4 or higher and nothing lower.
