Baccarat Rules

Baccarat is a game where the closest hand to 9 is the winner. Aces count as one, 2 through 9 as their face value and tens and face cards are worth 0. If your total is over 10 then you subtract 10 and whatever is left is your total. For example a 6 + 9 = 15 – 10 = 5, so 5 is your count.

To start you place your bet on the banker’s hand, players hand or a tie. The player and the banker are then dealt a 2 card hand each. The cards are housed in a 6 deck shoe and the decks are shuffled each round.

Whoever is closest to 9 wins. If you bet on the player and you win, you will be paid 2:1 on your bet. If you bet on the banker and the banker wins, you are paid 2:1 minus a 5% bank commission called “vigorish”. If both the player and the banker tie, the game is declared a tie and it you have bet on the tie field you will be paid 9:1 (some are 8:1).

Baccarat also has “Third Card Rules” where a third card can be drawn and the rules are as follows:

For the Player
If your are dealt an 8 or a 9, it is called a Natural hand and you cannot draw. Totals of 6 and 7 stands and 0 – 5 must draw.

For the Banker
If the banker has 7, 8 or 9 they cannot draw. With a 6 they draw when the players total is 6 or 7. With a 5 they draw when the player has a 4, 6, or 7 and with a 4 they draw if the players total is 2 – 7. With a 3 they draw unless the player has an 8 and with 2 or less, they draw regardless of the player’s total.

Overall the Casino advantage is 1.17% over the bank, 1.36% over the player, and 14.12% for a tie. This game is easy to learn and play has a low overall casino percentage.
