Bart Simpson Charity Tournament

Article written by Mitch Cohen
Wednesday, September 10, 2008

The voice of cartoon character Bart Simpson, Nancy Cartrwright, is hosting her Third Annual Monte Carlo Night and Texas Hold’em tournament. This event benefits the LAPD Devonshire Police Activity League supports; a local charity that is devoted to providing positive activities for at-risk kids. This party is at Cartwright’s home and is an all day event. The price to enter is $500 for the party and the tournament or you can enter for $250 and just watch the poker tournament. There is a large group of poker pros and celebrities expected and several have already committed to the event. The top five finishers will receive a WSOP satellite seat.

Poker pros expected are Jennifer Harmon, Todd Brunson, Sammy Farha, Men “The Master” Nguyen, Kristy Gazes, Kenna James, Marsha Wagner and many more. The celebrities that are already on the guest list are comedian Sinbad, comedian Brad Garrett, Mickey Dolenz from “The Monkees”, and actresses Kirstie Alley and Camryn Manheim.

Cartwright chose a poker tournament as the means for raising the money and she is a modest poker player herself. Although, she won’t get to play in the event because she will be busy being a hostess she had this to say about the event.

“When you look at the entertainment community, these actors and celebrities in film and television, I know a lot of guys who love to play poker. I’ve got a lot of friends that do that. And when I started to look into it, I found out that generally speaking, poker players are pretty generous. They do this quite a bit. There are all kinds of charities that poker players get involved with.” The first year, Cartrwright had 250 players. Last year, she had 450 players which raised enough money to build a new Youth Center. She is expected around 600 people to attend this year’s fundraiser. There will a band on site, magicians, silent auctions, a live auction, raffles, great food and of course, the poker tournament. This year’s event is being held on September 20th 2008.
