Daniel Negreanu is known as one of the best poker professionals of his time. He has two WPT titles, four WSOP bracelets, lots of final tables and a well known high stakes cash game player. His book has been long awaited by all and it’s titled “Poker Hold’em Strategy”.
This book is over 500 pages in length and he had five other top pro’s collaborate on it. Those players were Todd Brunson, Erick Lindgren, Evelyn Ng, Paul Wasicka, and David Williams and as a group are all in their 20/30’s. This is great cross section of today’s younger generation to get a new perspective on the game. Daniel had another book last year entitled “Hold’em Wisdom for All Players” but this is the one that all have been waiting for.
The first chapter is by Evelyn Ng and is based on the Big Bet strategy for both tournaments and cash games. The premise is to avoid difficult decisions after the flop by putting all the pressure on your opponents pre-flop. Evelyn suggests starting hands, the size of raises preflop, and even strategy on the flop, turn and river.
Todd Brunson covers “Winning at High-Limit Games”, Erick Lindgren covers “Playing No-Limit Hold’em Online”, Paul Wasicka writes about “Short-Handed Online No-Limit Hold’em Cash Games” and David Williams covers “Mixing it Up.”
However, most will be picking up this book for Daniels tips on poker and he tutors on how to use his “small ball” technique to deep stacked, no limit hold’em tournaments. “Small Ball” is Daniels strategy where you may look like you are playing recklessly but also have the impression that you are also in control of the table. You focus more on what your opponents hand is, rather than your own. He covers this technique in depth as well as other poker techniques.
Power Hold’em Strategy is an excellent addition to any poker player’s library. It has an excellent line up of writers and new strategies. This book should become one of the top poker books on the market.
