Online poker is defined as an online game in which one or many participants interact through their own personal computers provided an internet connection is established. Even though, the game of poker has been there for centuries, but online poker has a very brief history.
To start off, it was Mike Caro who discovered the online poker website PlanetPoker.com. He did have to face a lot of hardship in preparing a virtual poker room which would attract regular poker players and be very user friendly. He accomplished in 1998. This was the first time poker was introduced online. As soon as the website commenced, loads of traffic started coming. Within a few months time, Planet Poker’s fan based expanded throughout the poker corporation. Till the end of the year more and more online poker channels and rooms started emerging.
In the year 2000, the Poker Spot case gave a shock to the constantly flourishing industry. The incident went like that the body could not assemble the user deposits from its credit card processing association. The money of the players was not in the system and so the company could not return the winning amount of the players. After that the company dissolved leaving a black spot on the online poker industry.
The re-boost to the industry came in 2001, when the eminent names of poker enrolled into the online poker business. With their skills and stardom, new users were fascinated. The poker tournaments launched by these companies also contributed to their achievement.
Later in 2003, the most remarkable thing that occurred was the launch of a website known as PokerTips.com. This website provided users with all the tricks of the trade. Beginner or expert, many were beneficial from this website.
The virtual industry got the biggest boom the very next year. As the computer industry flourished, this gave hype to online poker too. More and more firms got registered to online poker games. New companies kept on adding taking the business to about triples from where it was. The industry was touching sky high.
There have been more recent developments in the online poker industry. Modern designers have changed the entire look of the virtual channels. Apart from online website, social networks such as Facebook.com have also introduced their clients to online poker zones which are quite popular.
