Going Fishing, Do you have the tools to fish?

Article written by Barry White

Players know that if a fish sits at a table, they can make a nights worth of profit from them. Years ago, the fish ran rampant as new players tried this new game. They would lose a small fortune learning the ins and outs. Nowadays, new players learn from TV and poker books and they lose less in the learning process as more and more material is available.

So now the trick is to go fishing in the best ponds but how does one know where that is when the ponds continue to change? The best bet is when you find someone who you consider a fish; mark them as a buddy on your buddy list or in this case - fish list. This allows you to check your buddy list when you first open your poker application and see where the good ponds are. If there are none, you can still play hoping to find a new buddy. Just check the list every now and then to see if there are any new fish online.

Some sites allow you to mark the type of player, so you can now mark the maniac and the calling station. This will allow you to see a table with a maniac and a couple of calling stations. At this table you know, the pots will be huge. If not use player notes, something everyone should do and not just for fish. Notes help because you may pick up some insights this time playing with them and those insights might help you the next time you play them. If not, the next time you play them, you can work on building an even stronger profile. With tens of thousands of players on sites, it’s very hard to play from memory.

A lot of sites will just show the winner at showdown and you are left wondering what the other guy had. This will sometimes hide the fish at the table because you don’t see them calling a big bet with 4 spades on the board when they have bottom pair. At a fair number of sites, you can request hand histories and you will get to see all cards that were still in at showdown. This is a great tool to learn who the fish are and who aren’t.

So don’t let someone else take home all the fish because fish don’t stay fish forever. Keep goo notes, add them as buddies and use all poker tools given to you by the poker site. Happy Fishing!!!
